Progress in the Making
Community Support Services
Dawn has worked with the Mental Health Skill-Building program for approximately two years now and continues to make significant progress in reaching her goals of personal growth, education, and overall wellness. One milestone accomplished this past year was Dawn’s completion of her GED. After several life turns, Dawn was unable to complete high school, and began working full-time to support herself. After the birth of her son, she became a full-time mother and her dream to become a history teacher seemed completely out of reach.
Through the mental health skill-building service, Dawn found support to work toward her educational goals and enroll in the GED program through the Amelia Pride Center. After months of preparation, she completed the program, scoring at a college level in several subjects.
This past Spring, Dawn attended her GED graduation ceremony supported by friends and family. Dawn has taken her next step in her educational endeavor by taking classes at CVCC as a part-time student. Dawn, we are so proud of all you have accomplished!
“I learned how to deal with my emotions without taking out my problems on the people around me like a hurricane. My whole life has been a hurricane, but now I feel as though the hurricane is over, even though storms will come, I feel more equipped to handle them.”
