HumanKind’s Adult Services department provides residential community-based Group Homes, Supervised Living apartments and Sponsored Homes across the state. Our services are designed to support adults with developmental disabilities, and all of our sites are licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services.
Our Adult Services Mission:
To provide a safe, caring and supportive atmosphere where individuals with disabilities can achieve their goals.
March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month
Each March, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), partners with Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) to create a social media campaign that highlights the many ways in which people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.
The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life, as well as awareness to the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live.
Humankind has put together a simple PEOPLE FIRST document to better our language as we seek to honor one another with our words.
