Transportation Makes a Difference
Economic Opportunity, Ways to Work
Kathy Boyd, a single mother of four, came to the Ways to Work program seeking reliable transportation in order to secure a promotion at work. Previous to completing the program, she had been spending hundreds of dollars per month on Uber and other transportation services which were often unreliable. On occasion Kathy’s transportation wouldn’t arrive as scheduled causing her to have to walk miles to her place of employment.
Kathy’s District Manager saw potential in her, but had been unable to promote Kathy to the Store Manager position due to her transportation challenges. When Kathy’s Manager heard that she was participating in the program she reached out to us and volunteered to pay all of Kathy’s DMV fees to assist her in getting reliable transportation as quickly as possible.
The day after Kathy received her Ways to Work vehicle, she was promoted to Store Manager significantly increasing her income. Kathy has settled in to her new position and is now working with the Financial Opportunity Center toward her goal of furthering her education and Career and ultimately becoming a Registered Nurse.
