Health and Wellness
When it comes to recreational sports, finding gym space isn’t an issue for some teams. For Jessie Calloway’s basketball team it was a nightmare. During the 2017 basketball season his team wasn’t able to find a gym to rent which lead to them practicing outside most of the time.
“We were outside practicing at lynchburg college last year,” Kevin Lambert, assistant coach, said. “We didn’t have an actual place, we just went where we could.”
This changed in March. Kevin Lambert, assistant coach, discovered that HumanKind had a gym available for rent at a reasonable price. For the past three months their team has gathered at HumanKind three days a week for two hours a day to practice, whereas last year they practiced about once a week. According to Calloway the reliable gym space has been a blessing to his team.
“It has given us a sense of home,” Calloway said. “Often times when you deal with travel teams or any kind of teams dealing with kids, it’s important that you find a stable foundation to practice at and that’s what HumanKind has given us, somewhere we know that’ll be there.”
