HumanKind on the Ground – Powerful words from the front lines.
May 19
We may be apart but we are TOGETHER.
I have found that it does not matter where our team is physically—they still care deeply about the women we serve and are bringing their talents and skills to solve problems creatively, making the most out of difficult circumstances. It is inspiring.
Just today, I heard from one of our team members, Anna. I wanted to share her thoughts on the power of support, no matter the vehicle, as she serves young moms on the front lines in this pandemic.
“The benefit of virtual support is that it keeps the lies from taking root. Lies like “you’re alone”, “no one else feels this way”, “everyone else is handling this better”, “you should be stronger”. Virtual support gives us the “that’s me too” moment that is crucial to mental health and the feeling of community support. It’s still hard and it isn’t the same, but the validation that others are walking this incredibly hard moment, that they are struggling and doing their best too. Virtual support is a daily reminder of grace. Grace for ourselves, our families, and our communities. This virtual village is keeping me fed.”
Today, in the midst of the craziness, I encourage you to take a moment to think of something that you have learned in this pandemic. Earlier I wrote down one of my own lessons; when I ask for help I am not weak – rather, I am stronger together with you.
Peace be with you,
