Dr. Muriel Mickles has enjoyed a rich tenure at CVCC and held many positions including Counselor and Dean of Humanities and Social Science for many years prior to her current appointment in 2015. Dr. Mickles earned an Associate Degree in Education from CVCC, Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Master’s Degree in Agency Counseling from Lynchburg College, and Doctorate of Education in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia. She is committed to excellence in education and has passionately dedicated her life to helping others to realize their potential and achieve their personal and professional goals.
She is very active in the College, the community and her church (Pleasant Valley Baptist Church). Dr. Mickles is married to her husband, George, and has three wonderful children, Bethanie, Anna and Evan. As a lifelong educator (with a counseling background), the vision and work of HumanKind strongly resonates with Dr. Mickles and is perfectly aligned with her personal and professional mission – to serve others. “To educate, support and empower individuals in the realization of how intelligent and vital they are and see them reach goals that they set for themselves is very fulfilling and rewarding. For numerous years, I have perceived HumanKind as beacon of hope for many in our community and I am very proud to be a part of this vital work through board service”.
Dr. Muriel Brown Mickles is the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs at Central Virginia Community College.
