General Race Info + Registration

What is the Lynchburg Turkey Trot?

The Lynchburg Turkey Trot is a family fun run and walk that is held on Thanksgiving Day in Lynchburg and all proceeds of this fundraising race support the programs and services of HumanKind. It is the largest 5K in the Lynchburg area drawing nearly 3,000 participants each year.

The race was originally started in 1988 by Don Lucy who grew up at the Presbyterian Homes (now known as HumanKind) as a way to give back and help raise funds and awareness for individuals, children and families across Virginia.

In its history the Lynchburg Turkey Trot has had three course locations including Timberlake Christian School, downtown Lynchburg and now with a start/finish at EC Glass High School on Langhorne Road.

Is my Lynchburg Turkey Trot registration tax-deductible?
Because your registration fee covers the cost of your entry, shirt and bib – i.e. service and goods, the registration is not tax deductible.  If you make a direct donation over and above the cost of registration – that amount would be deductible.
To make a direct donation without registration, please donate here.
What is a “twist on tradition”?

An opportunity for you to get creative as an individual or with a group! Participants can run or walk from anywhere on a date of their choosing between November 20 – November 28. This flexibility allows participation for when families are able to gather. Wear your race shirt, pin your race bib on, wear some fun holiday gear run or walk and then show off your finisher medal! We can’t wait to see your pictures!!

So it’s a “twist on tradition” but is there swag?

YES! Race registration includes a long-sleeve race shirt, race bib, finisher medal and some other turkey flare!

What's the course for the in-person race on Thanksgiving Day?

Great question! We have called the course on Langhorne Road home now for five years! The start/finish line is right in front of EC Glass High School on Langhorne Road.

Here’s a link to our Course Map!

When is the guaranteed shirt deadline?

Event shirts are guaranteed to those that register on or before November 15. Registrations received November 16 or after will have shirts available on a first-come basis at packet pick-up.

Are there awards for this race?

Awards will be given to participants in the in-person event held on Thanksgiving morning November 25 in Lynchburg. This event will be officially timed in-person. Virtual participants will not be eligible for timed race awards due to the variation of courses. However, EVERYONE who registers to run/walk will receive a 2021 commemorative finisher medal.

I have a large group. Is there a discount?

This year we are excited to provide the optional “Friends and Family” pack (or Framily as we like to call it) where you can receive a discount for groups of 4 or 5 individuals or an even bigger discount for groups of 6 – 10 individuals.

Will there be a price increase this year?

Nope – registration will remain the same.

Will there be a packet pick up this year?

Yes, we will be holding a drive thru packet pick up event on two different dates:

Friday November 19
12pm – 6pm
HumanKind Campus
1903 HumanKind Way (formerly 150 Linden Ave – same place!)
Lynchburg, VA 24503

Wednesday November 24
12pm – 6pm
HumanKind Campus
1903 HumanKind Way (formerly 150 Linden Ave – same place!)
Lynchburg, VA 24503

Do I have to attend packet pick up to get my race items?

Not at all, you can choose to have your items shipped directly to you. Please note shipping is $15 per address.

Or you can have someone pick up on your behalf — they must have your confirmation to do so.

When will my items ship?

Must be registered by 11/10/21 to receive your packet.

Race packets will be shipped in November. All shipping requests received after November 10 will ship but aren’t guaranteed by Thanksgiving day. We will continue to ship packets as requested but they could arrive AFTER Thanksgiving. PLEASE NOTE – you do NOT need your race packet to participate — you only need to upload your time, or download our app to track your progress. The race packet includes a shirt and swag items to add to the fun of the event!

Can I get a Refund?

Race entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please know that proceeds from this race benefit the programs of HumanKind, which provide a broad range of services that foster the social, mental and financial well-being of families and individuals. With a focus on empowering people of all backgrounds and abilities, HumanKind helps equip people to build better lives for themselves and their families. These programs serve thousands of people in Lynchburg and across Virginia each year!

If I’m participating virtually, when do I need to submit my race results?

Your results can be submitted anytime between November 20 – November 28.

Where and When will the results be posted?

Race results will be posted on our website at, on our facebook page at and on the run sign up page at
