  • Ways to Work is a program offered through HumanKind that helps people access reliable transportation and build credit through fair-interest car loans. In addition to vehicle financing, participants receive supportive services like life skills training, financial resources, and credit education.

  • To qualify for the program, you must:

    • Be 18 years or older.

    • Have a valid Virginia driver’s license.

    • Be able to afford a monthly car payment with full coverage insurance.

    • Live or work in the program’s service area

    • Have a work history: at least 6 months of continuous employment at 30+ hours per week (or combined hours from multiple employers), or at least 60 days on the current job with no employment gap exceeding one week.

  • Ways to Work serves individuals who live or work in selected regions of Virginia:

    • Greater Richmond area

    • Greater Lynchburg area

    • Greater Roanoke area

    • Greater Warrenton area

  • The program provides fair-interest vehicle loans through a partnership with HumanKind Lending. These loans help participants purchase reliable transportation even if they have a challenging credit history — supporting job stability and building credit.

  • No. Workshops and educational classes provided through Ways to Work are free. The vehicle loans themselves require payments, but the supportive services, such as financial workshops, are at no cost.

  • Participants can access:

    • Financial literacy workshops

    • Budgeting and spending plan assistance

    • Classes on smart vehicle shopping

    • Vehicle maintenance basics

    • Car insurance education

    • Ongoing financial education and coaching

    These classes help build financial knowledge and stability beyond the loan itself.
