Each year, HumanKind’s Lynchburg Turkey Trot brings together our community for a fun, family-friendly Thanksgiving morning tradition that also supports a great cause! Volunteers like you make this event possible, helping to create a festive, seamless experience for our runners, walkers, and supporters. Sign up, make an impact, and be part of something truly special this holiday season.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering at the Turkey Trot is a unique opportunity to give back to the Lynchburg community, meet new friends, and experience the joy of community service. Volunteers will receive:

November 18th & 19th: Packet Prep
  • Where: Scott Insurance- 1301 Old Graves Mill Rd, Lynchburg, Virginia 24502
  • Shifts: 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, and 4:00 PM-6:00 PM
  • Role: Assist with organizing and packing race packets for participants. This crucial step ensures everyone has what they need for race day. It’s a fun, behind-the-scenes role that helps set the stage for a successful event! We will need volunteers to: Sorting merchandise based on orders, ordering bags numerically/alphabetically, placing proper paperwork in corresponding bags, and preparing race day bibs.

November 21st & 26th: Packet Pick-up
  • Where: HumanKind Main Campus- 1903 HumanKind Wy, Lynchburg, Virginia, 24503
  • Shifts:  10:30 AM-1:30 PM, 1:00 PM-4:00 PM, and 3:30 PM-6:30 PM
  • Role: Help participants pick up their race packets in a drive-thru style at our HumanKind Main Campus. Volunteers will assist with check-in, distribute packets, and answer questions. This is a fantastic way to engage with our runners before race day!

November 27th: Race Day — Our Biggest Need!
  • Where: 2111 Memorial Ave, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501
  • Roles:
    • Course Facilitator (7:00am-10:30am) : Working in conjunction with Zone Leader to help maintain assigned course zone. Cheering runners on, providing direction to runners as needed, moving barricades/cones and other course/zone duties as assigned. 
    • Start/Finish Line (6:30am-10:30am): Assist Start/Finish Coordinator with duties associated with the start/finish of the race, including moving cones/fencing/barricades, handing out finisher medals, ushering and guiding race participants as needed, cheering on runners, other duties as assigned associated with Start/Finish area.  *The 6:30 AM time slot needs to be volunteers able to lift 50 + lbs to help assemble the blow up Start/Finish line.
    • Lawn Area: (7:00am-10:30am)

      • Hospitality/food area
      • Award Distribution
      • Mascot Handlers: Help support our mascots during the race: guiding them, making sure they have water, etc.
      • Social Media Team: Interviewing Staff, Runners, Volunteers, and Families *Volunteers for this opportunity will be limited and need to have experience or familiarity with social media platforms and current social trends.

  • Review our calendar to view current volunteer opportunities
    • Click the event you would like to sign up for and hit the “register” button
    • From there, you will be redirected and prompted to our volunteer software, Civic Champs, to create a profile and complete sign-up.
