The 2024 HumanKind Golf Challenge in Richmond, VA, was a huge success, uniting golf enthusiasts for a day of competition, celebration, and fun for a cause. Held at the Magnolia Golf and Country Club, this event brought together sponsors and supporters all dedicated to fostering economic prosperity in Virginia.
The event kicked off with opening remarks from Pame Adams, an Office Coordinator at Assisting Families of Inmates (AFOI), who shared her journey as a participant in the Ways to Work program.
She emphasized the importance of removing barriers to economic resources, illustrating how help with transportation and technology contributes to her becoming more financially stable.
“To be honest it was a smooth process for me, but I also feel like I had an advantage because I have technology… I work in the office, so I have access to computers and the internet.”
Since 2012, HumanKind has been improving lives in the Metro Richmond Region having served over 8,000 people, including 500 personal fair interest loans totaling over $2M. Proceeds from the event were dedicated to HumanKind’s Economic Resource Center, in Richmond and Lynchburg, (which includes Ways to Work, the Financial Opportunity Center and additional programs that provide job training and financial literacy).
The day featured a four-person scramble format, allowing players of all skill levels to participate and enjoy the camaraderie of the game. We closed the day by gathering participants for a celebratory reception and awards ceremony. Our leadership team spoke passionately about the impact of the funds raised, sharing stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed through economic empowerment initiatives.
