2016-2017 Monthly Workshops

The Child Care Resource Center offers a variety of workshops to help you improve the quality of child care you provide.

Most sessions are $15 each. CPR Workshops are $40 each. All sessions require pre-registration.

The Child Care Resource Center offers classes on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, to better meet your training needs. Tuesday workshops run 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Saturday workshops run 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

Also, please note that payments for monthly workshops are due in advance and is non-refundable. If there are fewer than 10 people registered for a workshop, the workshop may be cancelled and your fee will be credited to a future workshop of your choice.

 

September 10, 2016 – Making the Most of Large Group Time  Register

Large group time can be a wonderful opportunity to exchange information, play active and quiet games, and listen to stories. It can also be one of the most challenging times of the day! This workshop will give you techniques to keep large group time interesting and fresh, to keep children engaged throughout your time together!

 

September 17, 2016 – Self-Awareness – The Power Within   Register

Children who have a better understanding about themselves can uniquely identify themselves as a separate individual from others. Join us this month and learn how children are able to reflect and build on their strengths because they are empowered by who they know they are.

 

October 29, 2016 – Losing the Stereotype – Recruiting & Keeping Men in Child Care   Register

Would you like to gain a gender-balanced workplace, where men also aid in the development of children? When we see the broader scope of how men positively impact child care, then we can reduce the stereotypical, negative perceptions about men in the early learning field. Learn how to have the best of both worlds as you employ men in a profession that will benefit positively from their knowledge, presence and experience!

 

November 8, 2016 – Lesson Planning in a Family Day Home Register

Planning activities for a Family Day Home is very different than in a center-based program. In this workshop, you will learn now to plan developmentally appropriate activities for all the different ages you care for, while keeping it interesting for everyone. Plan on sharing some of your own ideas!

 

November 19, 2016 – Cooking with Kids   Register

Back by popular demand! Research has shown that the more involved children are in producing their food, the more likely they are to taste unfamiliar things. This interactive workshop will give you ideas on how you can incorporate simple cooking into your classroom and encourage children to just try it!

Due to space limitations, participants must register online, and the class is limited to 15 participants. 

 

December 3, 2016  – CPR & First-Aid for Adults, Children, and Infants Register

This is a full length course that will instruct the student from the ground up in regards to emergency services involving CPR and First-Aid.  Compressions, Breathing, Airway and First-Aid application are all discussed.  Successful participants will receive a two year certification card through the American Heart Association.

We are pleased that Mr. Anthony Andrews will be your instructor. He is a thirteen year veteran as a Lynchburg Firefighter, and a child care provider through Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center. He is an independent instructor through the American Heart Association.

Due to space limitations, participants must register online, and the class is limited to 16 participants.  

Cost: $40.00 per student

 

December 6, 2016 – Cooperation not Competition: Working with Other Programs Register

How do we facilitate the needs of all children while having an active relationship with other child care programs? Networking is crucial in child care because others can point you in the direction of trainings or creative ideas that will help your program. Come out and learn how to become a cooperative partner with others and learn how to maximize your networking ability.

 

January 10, 2017 – Observation, Evaluation & Assessment – Get to Know your Children in Care   Register

A high quality observation in the classroom will show you a child’s interests, learning differences, and gifts. Learn how to properly observe a child, evaluate, then assess your observation, to help children have successful outcomes in the classroom and beyond.

 

January 28, 2017 – Security & Safety Assurance in the Family Day Home   Register

How do you minimize accidents while maximizing fun? Great question! We will help you develop a security plan that will keep your children safe from dangers in the classroom area, the kitchen, the play area, stairwells and around pets. You will have the confidence and the assurance that your FDH is safe, and your children are protected.

 

February 25, 2017 – Professionalism in Early Childhood Setting  Register

Child care providers are one of the most unrecognized and underappreciated group of professionals in the United States. In this workshop, we will unravel the stereotype of glorified babysitting, and learn how to maintain the high standards of quality early childhood education and earn respect for the profession. Do you have teachers that need a clearer understanding in professionalism? Do they need know how to talk to children, staff or the general population? This class will help equip teachers and directors to interact with the public and all who are employed in a child-based setting, while creating a friendly and positive atmosphere.

April 29, 2017 – Active Play for Toddlers & Preschoolers   Register

Childhood obesity is a national problem. Early childhood educators can teach children to play actively every day, and may improve their chances in losing weight and living a longer, healthier life. Come to this lively workshop to learn fun, simple, physical activities you can do with your toddlers and preschoolers, to encourage healthy habits!
